Homeopathic medicine in the 1918 Spanish flu

Homeopathic cures had a very high success rate in treating victims of the 1918 Spanish flu.

During the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic, patients treated by conventional chemical-based medicine, or Allopathic medicine, experienced mortality rates that ranged from 30 to 40 percent. In the case of one hospital in New York, the mortality rate went as high as 68 percent.

In sharp contrast, let's look at the success rate of homeopathic medicine:

• A report to the American Institute of Homeopathy in 1921 showed that the death rate of 24,000 flu cases under conventional medical care in that study was 28.2 percent, while the death rate of 26,000 cases treated with homeopathy was just 1.05 percent.
  
  
• The Homeopathic Medical Society of the District of Columbia treated 1,500 Spanish flu sufferers, of which only 15 died.
  
  
• At the National Homeopathic Hospital, the recovery rate was 100 percent!
  
  
• In Dayton, Ohio, Dr T A McCann treated about 1,000 patients and reported NO DEATHS.
  
  
• In Chicago, Dr Frank Wieland, MD, reported: "With 8,000 workers we had only one death. Gelsemium (a homeopathic remedy) was practically the only remedy used. We used no aspirin and no vaccines."
  
  
• In Connecticut, 6,602 cases were reported, with 55 deaths, less than 1 percent.
  
  
• Dr. Roberts, a physician on a troop ship during WWI, had 81 cases of flu on the way to Europe. He reported: "All recovered and were landed. Every man received homeopathic treatment."

Homeopaths even question if the 1918 Spanish flu was, indeed, a form of flu. Instead, they have reasons to believe that the 1918 epidemic was actually a reaction to vaccination.

In general, homeopathic medicine has a high success rate with infectious diseases such as the flu. It is also one of the few forms of alternative medicine that can be subjected to double-blind scientific studies. Meanwhile, for those not familiar, here is a brief explanation of what is homeopathic medicine and how do homeopathic cures work.

Homeopathy is based on the principle of "like cures like" - similar to the concept of fighing fire with fire, or poison with poison. Thus, homeopathic cures are substances that, when given to a normal healthy person, will produce the same symptoms that a sick person has. For example

• If you have a fever, you will be given a substance that will produce a fever in a normal healthy person
• If you have a cough, you will be given a substance that will produce a cough in a normal healhy person. And so on.

What is unique about homeopathic medicine, however, is that the homeopathic cures come in very, very tiny amounts - so tiny that, in some instances, they practically no longer exist. The actual substance of the medicine is not as important as the "energy quality" of the substance.

In the production of homeopathic cures, the original substance - it may be a mineral, herb, animal tissue, virus, etc - - is first diluted in 100 parts of water. The mixture is then shaken or "potentised" so that the water takes on the "energy quality". This mixture is then further diluted in another 100 parts of water. And the process may be repeated six, 12 or more times.

With each dilution, the concentration of original homeopathic medicine is reduced -- from 1/100 to 1/10,000 to 1/1,000,000 to 1/100,000,000 etc. As you can imagine, after a few dilutions, very little of the original substance is left. Theoretically, after 12 dilutions, not a single molecule of the original substance can be detected. Yet this "diluted" medicine is even more potent than the original substance.

This is one aspect of homeopathic medicine that logical minds may find hard to accept. But the track record has been that it works.

And because the original substance is practically non-existent, homeopathic rermedies are extremely safe and free from side effects.
